William’s been and picked up the insulation so we’re going to unload it now.
The story of my extension being built

William’s got the wood from Totton Timber and we’ve unloaded it. Originally the chipboard was going to float on top of the insulation, but because the area is so large and there will be some point loads, such as stud walls, I’m going to lay joists allowing for 300 mm of insulation to go between. The insulation will go between the joists and the chipboard will still rest on the insulation, but it will be firmer.
So, we’ve got 20 sheets of insulation 2400 x 1200 x 100, 40 sheets of 22 mm chipboard 2400 x 600 and about 60 m of 45 x 95 CLS timber.

Continuing at glacial pace with the construction of the timber floor. The joists need to be supported at exactly the right height to match the existing floor. Wooden blocks are cut or shaved down with a router to a tolerance of less than 0.5 mm so that support is even all over as when some of it is tiled later there must be no flex.
