Health and safety

Bar the horrible light polluting flood light at the back of the house, I’ve managed to get around outside in pitch darkness for nearly thirteen years without incident. However, trenches, part built walls and wooden stakes present quite a hazzard in the dark so I’ve installed this light which comes on when you get near it. There’s no chance of any light pollution with this one because it’s got an energy saving light bulb in it. It saves energy because, after it’s managed to get itself going, hardly any light comes out. Still, it’s enough to stop me falling down a trench and banging my swede.

Skip

Friday 9th March 2012 / 10:00

Great excitement. The old skip is being taken away and a new one replaces it. The full skip was packed really well and was well over the top. I was slightly disappointed that the lorry didn’t appear to struggle to pick it up.

When they swap a skip they first hoist the full skip on top of the empty one on the lorry, then they lift both full and empty skips back onto the ground and then just pick the full one off the top of the stack.

Lights

I’ve been and bought some fluorescent lights to put up while I’m working in here. They really light the place up well. Eventually they’ll go into the loft.

Wall below dismantled chimney 1

Sunday 28th October 2012 / 17:24

This bit of wall used to be part of the chimney, which was dismantled. I’ve spent hours chiseling away at the very hard concrete lintel and cutting the reinforcement bars off to get it flush to the wall.

Brickwork re built. Time to get the wood burner going and have something to eat.
