Garage modification 1

Friday 22 April 2011

The front half of the garage is too close to the new wall. My medium term solution is to move the garage wall into the building, leaving the roof intact, to create a 900 mm space between the house wall and the garage wall.

Garage modification 2

Friday 22 April 2011

As this is just a medium term solution I’m going to rest a sole plate on the concrete floor and then move the wall onto it. There will be damp proof membrane between the floor and the sole plate. The house is crooked in relation to the garage so this wall will be built at an angle.

Garage modification 4

We went round to see William to borrow some acro props to hold the roof up while the wall is moved.

Garage modification 5

Bracing struts in position, acro props taking load.

Garage modification 6

Saturday 23 April 2011

Verticals detached from rest of building using disc cutter

Garage modification 7

Saturday 23 April 2011

Tony has been drafted in to help at this stage and the wall is lowered onto the ground. The rotten timber is removed from the bottom and the verticals cut to fit under the new ceiling plate.

Garage modification 8

Saturday 23 April 2011

Wall is moved into position. Verticals area chocked up to correct level and fastened to the sole and ceiling plates.

Garage modification 9

Monday 25 April 2011

The soffit has been created using some old shuttering ply that was lying around and the small end wall was clad using the timber which was taken off from next to the double doors. You can see that because the floor slopes the sole plate has been chocked up.

Garage modification 9

Gutter is on, timbers attached to bottom and creosoted.

Garage modification 10

Sun, 21 Aug 2011 / 12:21

The internal wall which used to  separate the main part of the garage from the wood sheds at the end has been removed and I’ve put  a square window in. This job involved the removal of loads of wood-wormy old wood, spiders webs, dust and other detritus.
