1 Conservatory

Finally the rest of the conservatory will be built. The first thing is to redo some of the brickwork up to DPC which has been badly frost damaged in the five years since it was built. William is now semi-retired and so the job of doing this brickwork is down to Ben, who runs the company now. Neil’s been in on Friday to start removing the damaged bricks. Nipper is just exiting one of the air holes as he’s been investigating under the floor.

Laying bricks. The walls will come to about 200mm above finished floor height. There’s a whole course of blocks which have to be cut down; they are sawn by hand with a brick saw.

I got round to William’s yard at 8am to load these two scaffold towers onto the truck. Putting them up was fairly hard work.

Nick’s been drafted in and we’ve managed to get a steel beam up onto the towers to suspend the block and tackle that we’ll use to lift the side frame into position with. Williams’s got a bandana on.
