The bath has been delivered and I’m sorting out the waste pipes prior to installing it.
The story of my extension being built

This old cast iron bath has done me well. I’ve had over 6000 baths in it over the years. It’s been moved around while I’ve been working on the extension and it’s been in what is going to be the kitchen for about a year now. It’s so heavy I have to use a hydraulic jack to move it around. The enamel is very worn and to help me transport it to the metal recyclers it’s going to be smashed up with a sledge hammer.

The new bath is installed, using the new hot water supply from the boiler, so the old immersion heater is decomissioned. It’s so heavy, even with no water in it and the reason is that it’s half full of scale. I’ve cut the to off the tank and I later removed 25kg of scale. It’s surprising it ever managed to heat enough water for a bath for all those years.

The new bath with its amazing taps or ‘bath filler’ is installed. The plumbing now extends to where the shower is going to be. Just don’t turn those taps on yet. It’s not as comfortable or deep as the old bath because the bottom is too flat, but it’s probably more thermally efficient (or inefficient which would be better) and looks very nice.

The first order of Versapanel has arrived. I’m using it instead of plasterboard in the bathroom and as a tile backerboard for the floor (where there are to be tiles). It’s 10 mm thick, impervious to water and bloody heavy – about 40kg per sheet, so Nick Morgan has turned up to help me move it all and have a cuppa.
Slightly worrying to see that the previous post was in February. It’s not that I haven’t been doing anything, but there have been bits of electrical stuff, which isn’t very photogenic and apart from that I really don’t know where the time has gone. If I’m not careful I won’t get the floors tiled before my birthday.
