Kitchen wall destruction

Saturday 5th May 2012 / 16:16

Michelle, Benjamin and Matthew have come round to review progress.

8 Bathroom – Versapanel

Friday 16th May 2014 / 11:03

The first order of Versapanel has arrived. I’m using it instead of plasterboard in the bathroom and as a tile backerboard for the floor (where there are to be tiles). It’s 10 mm thick, impervious to water and bloody heavy – about 40kg per sheet, so Nick Morgan has turned up to help me move it all and have a cuppa.

Slightly worrying to see that the previous post was in February. It’s not that I haven’t been doing anything, but there have been bits of electrical stuff, which isn’t very photogenic and apart from that I really don’t know where the time has gone. If I’m not careful I won’t get the floors tiled before my birthday.

Pier

Friday 23rd March 2012 / 16:28

The pier is built using a combination of large concrete blocks and engineering bricks. A damp proof membrane is inserted at the base.

9 Bathroom 4

Sunday 22nd March 2015 / 20:04

Getting there. Just the bath sides and shower door to do now.

9 Bathroom 3

Friday 5th December 2014 / 15:12

Shower tray in position. Versapanel is attached and shower controls temporarily fitted to check position.

8 Floor tiling

Tuesday 16th September 2014 / 2137

This is the grout that I’m using.

Roof 4

Friday 17th February 2012 / 16:02

Ben, Gary and Neil working on the north east side hanging existing tiles. Every sixth tile is nailed to the batton using aluminium nails.

Stud Walls

Friday 18th January 2013 / 09:13

A load of snow is coming down. A good day not to go to work!

10 Central heating

Saturday 2nd November 2013 / 20:10

Working quite late this evening before going for a beer with Tony in the Peg. I’ve left the pipes long and made a temporary connector between the water supply and the central heating flow pipe. This will enable me to test the whole system using mains water pressure to make sure it doesn’t leak. Normally you’d use a proper pressure testing kit for this, but I reckon this will work pretty well as the mains water pressure should be at least double what the heating system will run at.

Floor – moving sink 2

Friday 26th October 2012 / 17:09

The sink is in its new position and the plumbing has been re-arranged. This is pretty much where the sink will eventually be, but not exactly.

8 Plastering

Friday 20th September 2013 / 1228

All dry now.

Kitchen wall removal

Sunday 6th May 2012 / 15:21

Outer concrete block wall, window and cotton insulation partially removed. The lintel above the window was bloody heavy.

9 Bathroom

Saturday 17th May 2014 / 16:36

Sink and unit being tried in position to get positions for plumbing.

Plasterboarding 6

Saturday 8 June 2013 / 15:54

Finished the long wall now. Just the bits where the steel lintels are to sort out.

Pier

Friday 23rd March 2012 / 17:58

The new blocks and bricks are keyed into the existing walls. Mesh is inserted to tie the bricks together and prevent spread.

10 Bathroom 4

Sunday 29th March 2015 / 17:45

The shower is all silicone sealed and the shower head bracket is up. I just need to wait 24 hours or so and then I can have the first shower. I’ve never actually lived anywhere where there’s been a shower.

10 Bathroom 3

Friday 12th December 2014 / 18:17

The hole is to allow the shower pipe outlet nut to be adjusted.

9 Floor tiling

Tuesday 16th September 2014 / 2138

This is the adhesive.

Roof 4

Friday 17th February 2012 / 16:04

Nick came round for beers last night and he’s still here helping. He’s cutting up the old roof timbers for fire wood.

Stud Walls

Friday 18th January 2013 / 09:13

The Garden. Looks black and white, but isn’t.
